Michael Buble has revealed his stunning Argentinian girlfriend thought he was gay when they first met.
The big band crooner met actress Luisana Lopilato backstage at one of his gigs but intimidated by her good looks and his lack of Spanish, nervous Buble spent more time chatting to her male friend.
Michael, 34, told the Sun: "I later found out she was on the phone to her mother the whole time saying, 'Buble's gay. He's hitting on my friend.'"
He added: "I spotted her in the crowd and thought she was the most beautiful woman I'd ever laid eyes on , but she came backstage with this good-looking dude and I assumed it must be her boyfriend."
But Michael later found out the pair were just friends and he sent a message to Luisana asking her out on a date - and they have been together ever since.
The Canadian singer reckons dating one of Argentina's best-loved actresses has not made him popular in her home country.
"In South America she is a massive star and I get the feeling some people - perhaps her fans - don't like me. And the media there have said terrible things about me.
"She's bright as well as beautiful and I'm the happiest I've ever been."
