Maria de Jesus, better known to her friends as Marichuy (Maite Perroni) is a young girl that was abandoned at birth at an orphanage by her mother. Marichuy’s mother abandoned her due to her health and various illnesses she suffered, she thought that it was the best option for her daughter’s wellbeing. At the age of fourteen Marichuy escaped and begins to wonder the streets. During her youth she was attacked, which developed into fear of men. With time she finds a home under the protection of Calendaria (Evita Munoz) a laundress.

One day Marichuy is involved in legal problems after going to a night club and she is taken to the police station. There she meets Juan Miguel Roman (William Levy) a psychoanalyst. Juan Miguel convinces Judge Patricio Velarde (Ricardo Blume) to drop the charges. This is the first encounter between Marichuy and Judge Velarde, who without knowing is Marichuy’s father. Day’s later Juan Manuel wife Viviana (Nailea Norvid) passes away in an airplane accident. But Viviana did not pass away she is in Miami with her lover, a Jamaican who steels her jewels and money. Who is later killed by Viviana.

Marichuy ends up in jail but for her not to be arrested Juan Miguel commits to help her and assist her in all her problems under the condition that he takes her to go live at his house. Nevertheless Juan Miguel’s mother in-law , Onelia (Laura Zapata) opposes the idea and with time achieves her goal of getting Marichuy out of the house. Marichuy ends up living with the Valarde family, which are her biological parents. In the Valarde home their lives Estefania (Ana Patricia Rojo) who has passed herself as their daughter threw lies. Estefania begins a romantic relationship with Juan Miguel in which they get engaged.

Unexpectedly the Velarde's accuse Marichuy of robbery due to some valuable objects had gone missing. They decide that it would be better if Marichuy abandoned their home. Juan Miguel takes Marichuy into his home again, in which time he discovers his true feelings towards her. Juan Miguel decides to investigate the cause of Marichuy’s trauma and nightmares, thus helping her to deal and get over her fears and complexes. During a session she discovers the reason of her suffering and at the same time he discovers that he is also guilty of causing her insecurities and fears.

Juan Miguel and Marichuy start dating and eventually get married. The day after their honeymoon Marichuy dreams about her assailant and she was actually able to see his face in which turns out to be Juan Miguel. She decides to leave him. Time passes and Juan Miguel discovers that his wife Viviana did not died in the plane crash but was alive. Viviana argues that she lost her memory and decides to hire a tutor for her daughter Mayita (Sarai). At the same time Marichuy discovers that she is pregnant and she hides her pregnancy form Juan Miguel. Marichuy decides to leave the city and go to the province with Calendaria and they end up in Leopardo’s (Rene Strickler) hacienda. He offered them refuge and starts to fall in love with Marichuy. She refuses him due to her being pregnant and married. With time Marichuy begins to feel affection for Leopard. Juan Miguel and Leopardo confront each other for Marichuy's love.
